Cardiff is a vibrant and lively city, with an established theatre and film scene, but now it is time to also appreciate its incredible music scene. The popularity of other art forms can often overshadow the city’s musical history, but it’s important to remember the range of music on offer in Cardiff is absolutely huge and ever-growing. Since the 1990s, the Welsh capital has been dominated by indie rock and alternative folk music. It is very special to see Cardiff embrace the city’s love of music, broadening its horizons and bringing it back into the mainstream of the city streets.
Cardiff Castle is a prominent community hub and the first thing you think of when you picture our city. It is the very centre of Cardiff and it has been host to a plethora of prestigious artists. The list ranges from Nile Rodgers, Clean Bandit, Tom Odell, and Craig David to captivating acts such as Madness, a-Ha, The Chicks, Blondie, Sting, Westlife, Hozier, Lumineers, Bastille, and the one and only Sir Tim Jones.

Depot in the Castle is a popular day out among locals and visitors alike, perfect if you’re looking to surround yourself with like-minded individuals and enjoy the event of the summer. You can spend the day relaxing in the unique atmosphere of Cardiff’s most captivating monument, soaking up the celebration of music for all ages suitable for the whole family. What’s more, Depot in the Castle is an event accessible to all – we wouldn’t want anyone to miss this!
The event will be celebrating its sixth year in 2024 with an incredible lineup of musical guests; headlining the event is English singer-songwriter and pop sensation, Anne-Marie. She will be accompanied by seven impressive acts, including Tom Walker and DJ Jax Jones.
Don’t miss out on this spectacular event, for one day only on Saturday 17 July. If you like the sound of Depot in the Castle, be sure to also check out another of Cardiff’s music-themed events, the Cardiff Music City Festival in October 2024.
It is important to note, Wales is not known for its reliable weather conditions. The event will not be cancelled, even with potential rain, but remember to dress appropriately. Depot in the Castle is a relaxed event, but please note pets are not allowed in, and you cannot bring your own food and beverages.
