New Outdoor Gym Launches in Victoria Park

Cardiff’s Victoria Park has a fresh new feature and it’s one that’s already energising the local community.

A brand-new outdoor fitness area has officially opened, giving park-goers the perfect excuse to swap the treadmill for fresh air. Designed for all ages and abilities, the space includes pull-up bars, dip benches, jumping blocks, tyre flips and more – making it ideal for everything from a solo sweat session to full group workouts of up to 30 people.

The equipment is purpose-built for calisthenics, a sport that focuses on functional, bodyweight movement and is completely free to use, with no booking or membership required.

“Spaces like this remove so many of the usual barriers to fitness,” said Cllr Jennifer Burke, Cabinet Member for Culture, Parks and Events. “Being able to turn up and train, surrounded by nature, is a brilliant way to promote both physical and mental wellbeing.”

Local personal trainer Becky Adams added, “Calisthenics is a really inclusive sport, you don’t need expensive gear or a gym pass. It’s amazing to have something like this in the heart of our community.”

The new addition complements Victoria Park’s existing sport and leisure facilities, which include tennis courts, beach volleyball, a multi-use games area, children’s playground and popular splash pad. The Grade II listed park also holds a coveted Green Flag Award, one of 20 Cardiff Council-managed parks to receive the national recognition.
