From The Classroom to The Plate
As we welcome in September, the summer draws to an end, children return to school and a new chapter begins. From an early age, we gain the ‘back to school’ mindset in September and it could be argued that this never leaves. September is the time to embark on new challenges and learn new things, old or young.
The Classroom offers a unique dining experience with panoramic views across the city. The floor-to-ceiling glass dining room sits on the top floor of Cardiff and the Vale’s landmark £45 million City Centre Campus. Uniquely, the establishment is staffed by Michelin Star and AA Rosette awarded staff, alongside budding Cardiff and Vale College students looking to hone their hospitality skills before heading into the industry.
Cardiff and Vale College has a reputation for equipping students with the skills needed to progress and succeed in their future careers. Many of the former talents at the college have gone on to work in top establishments, including 5 star hotels and Michelin and AA awarded restaurants across the region, UK and beyond. The host of talent at the restaurant is continually met with nothing shy of brilliant feedback. A previous customer has described the establishment as one “not to be missed” with “stunning food and outstanding service”.
Students work at The Classroom all year round except for the summer holidays. This unique course helps them learn practically by providing them with the essential skills needed and supports their personal development. The 35 week programme also allows workplace progress as students make advances up the NVQ Diploma levels. Students start as members of the team helping with the day-to-day runnings, eventually working their way up to work as trainee supervisors.
Not only does The Classroom equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to progress in their careers, but they also provide cookery lessons for the public. The one-off master classes and short courses offer an exciting opportunity where you can learn from their team of experts or visiting professionals.
