The extraordinary journey of the Wales Women’s national football team, from enduring institutional neglect to making history at UEFA Euro 2025, is set to be unveiled in a powerful new BBC Cymru Wales documentary, Euro 2025: Together Stronger. The film, airing on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from July 3rd at 10:40 PM, features candid interviews with star players, including record goal scorer Jess Fishlock, who openly discusses questioning her future in the sport after years of heartbreaking near-misses.

Produced by Barn Media, the hour-long documentary delves into the team’s resilience, their fight for equality, and their long-overdue recognition. It paints a stark picture of their early days, playing to small crowds and battling for basic resources. As Jess Fishlock recalls, “We just had the bare minimum of everything.”

The film doesn’t shy away from the emotional toll of their journey. Former player and Watford captain, Helen Ward, tearfully recounts the devastating 2022 World Cup play-off final loss against Switzerland, a result that left her feeling it was her “last chance” at a major tournament. Captain Angharad James echoed this despair, questioning, “Are we ever going to do it? Is it ever going to happen?”

For Jess Fishlock, the pain was even deeper. After repeated disappointments, she confessed, “I didn’t really know what to do and I remember being with my mum and I was just crying, saying ‘I just don’t think I can do this again.’”

However, Together Stronger highlights how these setbacks ultimately fueled the team’s determination. Each missed opportunity and gut-wrenching defeat ignited a fire to change the system and defy expectations. This culminated in Head Coach Rhian Wilkinson leading Cymru to their “impossible dream”—securing a spot on the international stage in Switzerland this summer.
