Cardiff’s Principality Stadium is set to make history as it welcomes Wales’ first-ever Hyrox event in 2025. The globally popular fitness racing competition will take place over three action-packed days from 30 May to 1 June in the heart of the Welsh capital’s iconic 74,000-seater venue.

Hyrox has rapidly gained a cult following among fitness enthusiasts and professional athletes alike. The format challenges competitors to complete eight rounds of running and workouts. Each round begins with a 1km run, followed by a high-intensity exercise, including a 1km standing ski machine, 50m sled push, and 80m burpee jumps. The full workout circuit also includes a 50m sled pull, 1km indoor rowing, a 200m kettlebell carry, 100m lunges with a sandbag, and 100 wall throws and catches with a medicine ball.

Participants can compete solo or as part of a team. There’s an option to enter the doubles category for pairs or the team relay for quartets, making it accessible for both personal fitness challenges and competitive racing. The Hyrox format is consistent worldwide, with Cardiff joining a prestigious list of host cities that includes Glasgow (set for March 2025), Malaga, Copenhagen, Shanghai, Cologne, Miami, and Bangkok.

Hyrox was founded in Germany in 2017 by Christian Toetzke and Olympic hockey champion Moritz Fürste. The inaugural event welcomed 650 participants – a modest beginning compared to today’s global reach. Hyrox now attracts nearly 200,000 competitors annually, with London’s first race in 2021 drawing 522 entrants, a figure that soared to 24,000 participants across two races by 2023. With Cardiff’s Principality Stadium now on the Hyrox map, fitness fans can look forward to an unforgettable weekend of strength, endurance, and competition.
