Pettigrew Tea Rooms, which is based at the entrance of Bute Park, has announced its closure after 13 years of service. The tea room, renowned for its afternoon teas, breakfasts, and in-house baked goods, will serve its last customers at the end of spring 2025. In a message shared on social media, the team expressed:
“We won’t moan here about how difficult it is to operate a full service restaurant in this day and age, but the pressures are real and something is no longer working.” This sentiment reflects the challenges faced by many in the hospitality industry today.
They added:
“Among all the incredible successes over the years, we proudly reduced anti-social behaviour in our corner of Bute Park, served more glasses of Cava and cream teas than we could ever count. But most importantly made friends for life with our staff both past and present along with our incredible loyal customers.”
Since its opening in 2012, Pettigrew Tea Rooms has been a beloved spot for locals and visitors. The news of its closure has left many people saddened, marking the end of an era for this iconic Cardiff venue.
