Great news for commuters and keen explorers in South West Wales! The wheels are well and truly in motion for a massive overhaul of bus services across the region, thanks to some serious teamwork between Transport for Wales (TfW) and local authorities. And guess what? They want YOUR input!
While we in Cardiff are well-acquainted with zipping around our fabulous city, our neighbours to the west are about to embark on an exciting new journey. The Bus Reform Bill is currently making its way through the Senedd, paving the way for bus franchising to kick off in summer 2027. South West Wales has the honour of being the very first region to get a taste of these shiny new changes.
So, what’s cooking? TfW and the local bigwigs in South West Wales are currently mapping out what they’re calling the “Proposed Base Network.” Think of it as a blueprint showing where buses could go and how often they’ll run come 2027. The plan is to build on the current network, making smart improvements and getting the most out of existing resources. It’s all about creating a bus service that truly works for the people.
Lee Robinson, Executive Director for Regional Transport and Integration at TfW, highlighted the importance of public involvement: “Bus franchising in Wales will allow us to shape an improved bus network that really works for people, and we’re doing this in partnership with local authorities and bus operators. We are now at the start and South West Wales will be the first region to see changes in 2027. It’s fundamental that we involve the public and listen to their feedback on our proposed improvements. We’d encourage people to take part in the online survey or attend the organised events.”
Basically, they’re not just drawing lines on a map in a back office somewhere; they’re genuinely keen to hear what you, the actual bus users (or potential bus users!), think. It’s a proper partnership – with local authorities, bus operators, and the public – to keep building and improving these services over time.
Want to have your say? Of course you do!
This is your chance to influence how future bus services will look in South West Wales. Your feedback is crucial for making sure these improvements hit the mark.
