WestJet Launches Direct Cardiff to Toronto Flights

Grab your passport, WestJet has just announced the hugely anticipated return of their direct flight link between Cardiff Airport (CWL) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). Launching on May 23, 2026, this four-times-a-week, non-stop service is the first direct connection between Wales and Canada in almost two decades.

This is monumental news for residents, travellers and businesses, instantly making long-haul trips to North America more accessible and convenient, and firmly cements Cardiff’s place on the global map, while opening up WestJet’s extensive Canadian network.

While Toronto is a popular destination in itself, it’s also WestJet’s primary hub. Once you land at Toronto Pearson, you can easily connect to major Canadian destinations like Vancouver, Calgary and Montreal, making long-haul travel from Wales easier than ever before.
WestJet specifically chose Cardiff as its exclusive airport in Wales and England for 2026 (alongside Glasgow in Scotland), showing huge confidence in the region’s growing demand for international travel. And the new connection is expected to create substantial opportunities for trade and investment, strengthening the economic and cultural ties between Wales and North America.

Jon Bridge, Chief Executive Officer of Cardiff Airport, commented “We’re incredibly proud that WestJet has chosen Cardiff Airport as a new UK destination for summer 2026. This new Toronto route marks an exciting milestone in our growth… It will strengthen tourism, create new opportunities for trade and investment, and showcase Wales on the global stage.”

This enthusiasm was echoed by WestJet’s Chris White-DeVries, who said: “We’re thrilled to bring WestJet’s friendly, affordable and reliable service to Wales for the first time. Cardiff is a vibrant capital with a proud and rich history, and we see huge potential in connecting it directly with Toronto.”

The First Minister of Wales, Eluned Morgan MS, also highlighted the economic benefits, noting that the route will “open up new economic opportunities for Wales in North America” and is timed perfectly ahead of Canada’s co-hosting of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
This vital Canada-Wales direct link is a massive win for the city, opening up a new world of unforgettable opportunities for both nations. It cements Cardiff as an essential hub.

This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for! Start planning your Canadian adventure now.
