Welsh Rugby Board Announces Three Professional Clubs Model

The WRU confirms a major structural change for elite men’s rugby in Wales, including a new Capital-based club and significant investment in the women’s game.

The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) has confirmed a landmark decision to restructure elite men’s rugby, moving from the current four teams to a three-club model.

This significant change follows a record-breaking public consultation aimed at creating a more competitive and financially sustainable future for the sport in Wales . The new structure will see three professional men’s clubs-one for the Capital (Cardiff), one for the West and one for the East – all receiving equal funding. This decision reflects a commitment to concentrate Welsh talent and drive long-term success. It’s a big step for Welsh sport, and one that promises an exciting new chapter for fans and players alike.
