A comprehensive city centre road closure will be implemented for all fixtures. Scott Road and Park Street will close from 7 am for stadium preparation.
Core Road Closures
The full closure will include major routes like Castle St, High Street, St Mary Street, Wood Street, Westgate Street, and Cowbridge Road East (partially). Penarth Road will also close for up to an hour after the final whistle to ensure the safety of train passengers.
Access to the Civic Centre (including King Edward VII Avenue and Museum Avenue) will be controlled, allowing only for event parking, limited commuter parking, and private access.
Both Great Western Railway (GWR) and Transport for Wales (TfW) will be running additional services and capacity, but services are expected to be extremely busy.
- Queuing System: A full queue system will be in place at Cardiff Central station for safe boarding post-match (Mainline services on Central Square, Valleys services at the rear).
- GWR: Extra services to and from Swansea, Newport, Bristol and London. Pre-match trains are reservation-only.
- TfW: Additional capacity on all routes. Cardiff Queen Street will close early on all match days (check times above).
- Tickets: Ensure you have a valid ticket before joining the queue. Pay As You Go is available on TfW and CrossCountry (not GWR) across the South Wales Metro network.
Buses
- Local services will be diverted while the city centre roads are closed. Check the relevant operator’s website (Cardiff Bus, Stagecoach, NAT) for specifics.
- The Bus Interchange will close at the same times as the road closures for each game.
Did you know that over half of the car trips in Cardiff are under 5km? This is a great distance to walk or cycle. If you live locally, this is often the quickest way to beat the Cardiff traffic on event days!
- Cycleways within the closure area will remain open for bicycles, but please be mindful of the high pedestrian numbers.
Please ensure you check the prohibited items listed on the official Principality Stadium website before you travel, paying close attention to the bag policy (no large bags permitted). Getting to the stadium early will allow plenty of time for security checks.
