Welsh Government Champions Diversity Conference as Event Reaches New Heights

The third annual Mastering Diversity Conference has been hailed as the best yet after receiving powerful endorsements from the Welsh Government, headline sponsors Leigh Day and attendees from across sectors. Held at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, this year’s event was a dynamic blend of visionary keynotes, interactive Zone sessions and live music, leaving delegates inspired and energised.

The conference’s significance was underscored by the direct support of two key members of the Welsh Government. Hon. Jane Hutt MS, Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice and Welsh Government Chief Whip, opened the morning session, praising founder Bernie Davies for her tireless work in fostering inclusivity in Wales and globally.

Similarly, Hon. Rebecca Evans MS, Cabinet Secretary for the Economy, Energy and Planning, opened the afternoon session she said. “I had the opportunity to talk about how our economy needs everyone’s potential to be unleashed, and the steps Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government is taking to help do just that.”

This year’s speaker lineup featured a powerful combination of national and international expertise alongside deeply personal lived experiences. The list included Dr. Carlton Brown, founder of the Black British Entrepreneurs’ Conference; Scarlett Allen-Horton, entrepreneur and business partner to Lord Sugar; Ife Thomas, sports journalist Molly Stephens.

Each speaker offered a unique perspective that challenged, inspired and energised the audience. “Confidence is the cornerstone of inclusion, when people feel seen, they step into their power,” said Ife Thomas. Molly Stephens added, “Diversity in sport isn’t just about who’s on the pitch, it’s about who’s in the boardroom, the newsroom and the changing room too.” The event’s vibrancy was also punctuated by a moving performance from singer Gavin Sheppard, whose music had delegates dancing in their seats.

For many, the conference was not just a forum for discussion but a tangible example of inclusion in action. “Diversity isn’t something you talk about. It’s something you live. And that’s exactly what I saw Bernie Davies do,” said attendee Louise Adams. “She doesn’t just talk diversity, she lives it.”

They were joined by other key sponsors, including NatWest Group, Hugh James, OGI, Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust, Commonwealth Games Wales and Browne Jacobson, all united in their commitment to equity and inclusion.

With seven dynamic Zones spanning Law, Business, STEM, Youth, Health, Sport, Gender Equality and Representation, the Mastering Diversity Conference 2025 has cemented its status as a vital national platform.

In her closing remarks, founder Bernie Davies paid tribute to the collective effort that made the event possible. “This conference is nothing without its people, our Patrons, Board, Advisors, Sponsors, Volunteers and, of course, our speakers and attendees,” she said. “Together, we’ve shown that inclusion isn’t just a theme, it’s a way of working, leading and living.”
