More than 2,000 girls and young women from across Wales and the UK came together at The Red Dragon Centre in Cardiff Bay this weekend for Cityscapes Adventure 2026 a large-scale event organised by Girlguiding and Girlguiding Cymru.
Held across two days, the event welcomed over 1,400 attendees on Saturday and more than 700 on Sunday, with Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers, leaders and Trefoil Guild members all taking part.
Cityscapes events allow participants to explore a wide range of activities at their own pace from interactive activity bases to a day-long Goosechase scavenger hunt giving girls the opportunity to build confidence, develop new skills and form lasting friendships.
The event focused on empowering young people, particularly older members, to grow in independence, work as part of a team and be inspired by the achievements of strong women from Wales.
A highlight of the weekend was a 7.3ft climbing wall installed at The Centre and over the two days, the girls climbed a combined height equivalent to Mount Everest, supported by Tori James, President of Girlguiding Cymru and the first Welsh woman to summit the 8,849m peak back in 2007.
Tori said: “Guiding gave me the confidence to try new things, meet new people and visit new places. It taught me that to achieve anything you needed to make a commitment to yourself and to others. For me, Guiding is about fun, friendship and finding out what matters to you.”
Kathy Gunner, Chief Commissioner for Girlguiding Cymru, added: “This wonderful event underlines Girlguiding Cymru’s continued commitment to provide opportunities for young people to thrive. The fact that participants travelled from across Wales and beyond reflects the national scale and appeal of the event.”
It was also a first for the Cardiff Bay venue itself. Emma Constantinou, Marketing Manager at The Red Dragon Centre, said: “This event was a first for us and it was just fantastic to see everyone coming together and really enjoying themselves.”
Cityscapes is part of Girlguiding Cymru’s wider programme of opportunities designed to support girls’ development, build resilience and create a strong sense of community.
