Cardiff locals have long known the magic of the Wales Coast Path, and now, the secret is officially out. A new study by Car Finance 247 has named the iconic route the UK’s second-favourite road trip destination for 2025, solidifying its place as a must-do this summer.
The study, which assessed routes on factors including TripAdvisor ratings, petrol costs, EV charger availability, and accommodation options, highlighted the Wales Coast Path’s impressive credentials for modern travellers. While its 870-mile length and stunning coastal scenery are already renowned, the path’s practical features helped it stand out from the competition.
According to the data, the Wales Coast Path received 5,289 five-star TripAdvisor reviews for its major sights, the second highest in the ranking. However, it secured the top spot for its number of affordable accommodation options, with an impressive 479 choices, making it an ideal destination for a weekend escape. For those embracing greener travel, the path is also a perfect choice, boasting the second-highest number of EV charging points (112) of all routes analysed.
This new focus on practical travel considerations reflects a shift in how people plan their road trips. As Louis Rix, Co-Founder & COO at Car Finance 247, noted, “This research shows that whether you’re heading out for a short weekend drive or a longer escape, there are incredible UK road trips to suit every budget and lifestyle.”
With the rise of EV ownership, Wales’ investment in rural charging infrastructure is clearly paying off, making the Wales Coast Path even more accessible for sustainable tourism. For those looking to hit the road this summer, it’s a clear sign that a world-class adventure is right on our doorstep.
