The 22nd edition of the Oysho Cardiff Half Marathon delivered an unforgettable day in the Welsh capital, shattering records for both participation and elite performance. Under the theme ‘We’re All In,’ more than 29,000 runners registered to take part, making it the largest event yet and boasting the highest number ever of international entrants.
The headlines were dominated by a stunning new course record in the men’s race. Ethiopian debutant Yismaw Dillu marked his first half marathon in style, carving out a blistering time of 59 minutes and 22 seconds.

Dillu’s phenomenal run shaved more than seven seconds off the previous record, set by Leonard Langat back in 2019. Speaking after his victory, a delighted Dillu said: “It was my first time running the half marathon so I am very very happy to win the race and set a new record. It was very windy but I felt strong and I am so pleased to win.”
In the women’s elite field, Kenya’s Miriam Chebet successfully defended her title. The reigning champion showcased her strength and determination, conquering the conditions to finish with a time of 1:06:36, five seconds quicker than her winning time 12 months prior. “I was ready for this race, especially after I won last year, I wanted to win again,” Chebet commented on her impressive repeat victory.

The day also saw brilliant performances in the wheelchair races, with Callum Hall and Mel Nicholls being the first to cross the finish line in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
The event’s theme, ‘We’re All In,’ shone a light on the collective effort that makes the Cardiff Half so special. This sense of unity, celebrated on this year’s official race t-shirt with the motto ‘Together, we go further,’ was evident everywhere. From the start line, to the incredible atmosphere provided by over 500 volunteers and thousands of spectators, the day was a collective celebration.
The Cardiff Half Marathon will return on Sunday 4 October 2026.
Due to the event’s surging popularity, a new ballot system has been introduced to ensure everyone has a fair chance of securing an entry.
The ballot is currently open and will close on Sunday 19 October 2025, with the results announced on Thursday 23 October 2025.
