Police Make Two Key Arrests Following St Fagans Museum Gold Theft

Two men have been arrested in connection with a high-profile burglary at the St Fagans National Museum of History in Cardiff, which saw the theft of several valuable artefacts, including Bronze Age gold jewellery.

The two suspects, aged 43 and 50 and both from Northampton, were arrested earlier this afternoon. They are currently in custody in Northamptonshire, according to South Wales Police.

The burglary, which involved items stolen from a display case in the museum’s main building, was first reported at approximately 12:30 am yesterday (Monday, October 6). Since the report, South Wales Police have been actively investigating the incident.

Detective Inspector Bob Chambers, from South Wales Police, highlighted the importance of the arrests, stating: “These two arrests are a hugely significant development in the investigation. We would like to thank the museum for its continued support, Northamptonshire Police, and members of the public who responded to our appeal for information.”

Despite the arrests, the stolen items, including the irreplaceable Bronze Age gold jewellery, have not yet been recovered, and searches are ongoing.

Amgueddfa Cymru, Museum Wales, released a statement welcoming the swift action taken by the police:
“We are pleased to hear this significant development in the investigation. We are hugely grateful to South Wales Police for the speed at which they have responded to this incident and will continue to work with them on their ongoing enquiries. Once again, we’d like to thank our staff, the local community and the wider public for their support whilst we have been responding to this incident.”
