The field is set for one of the most inclusive and inspiring competitions at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. Eight nations have been confirmed to compete in the Para Bowls events, promising a vibrant and highly competitive line-up next summer.
The Para Bowls competition, running from Friday 24 July to Sunday 2 August 2026, will feature three thrilling events: the Women’s and Men’s B6-8 Pairs and the B2-3 Mixed Pairs.
Host nation Scotland will be looking to dominate on home turf. They are confirmed to compete in all three events and will aim to defend the gold medals they won in every Para Bowls discipline at Birmingham 2022.
Six of these nations are Australia, England, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa and Wales. Continuing their strong tradition by maintaining a 100% attendance record in the Para Bowls disciplines since their official inclusion in 2002.
The line-up is made even more exciting by the return of past medal winners and the arrival of a new contender. Malaysia returns to the Para Bowls arena for the first time since Glasgow 2014, having previously won two bronze medals at Manchester 2002. Meanwhile, Singapore will make its historic debut in the Para Bowls competition at the Commonwealth Games, adding a fresh dynamic to the field.
The excitement of competing in Glasgow is already palpable for the athletes.
Pauline Wilson, a B6-B8 Pairs Commonwealth champion and member of the Glasgow 2026 Athlete Advisory Committee, captured the thrill of the home event. “Competing at the home Games is a dream come true. The support in Glasgow will be electric, and we’re ready to give it everything to defend our titles. The Commonwealth Games has given so many of us a platform to shine and show the world how fantastic our sport can be, and Glasgow 2026 will be no exception.”
The visiting nations are equally eager to take on the challenge. Rebecca Van Asch, High Performance Manager for Bowls Australia, is already anticipating the atmosphere. “There’s nothing that beats the Commonwealth Games environment when it is Games time. I’m sure, Glasgow as a city and Scotland as a whole, will be phenomenal and really be buzzing. We’ll try and feed off that energy.”
The Para Bowls announcement underscores Glasgow 2026’s commitment to inclusion. The Games will host the most expansive Paralympic sport programme in Commonwealth Games history, featuring 47 medal events across six disciplines.
Para Bowls is a wonderful example of the Commonwealth Games’ commitment to inclusion. Para sport is at the very heart of these Games,” said Jade Gallagher, Chief Operating Officer, Glasgow 2026.
Ann-Louise Morgan, Director of Sport, Commonwealth Sport, highlighted the unique nature of the integrated format. “The integrated sports programme is one of the defining features of the Commonwealth Games, and Para Bowls exemplifies the unique spirit of inclusion that sets our Movement apart.”
Owen James, Acting President, International Bowls for the Disabled, believes the sport provides an outstanding opportunity. “Para Bowls exemplifies the sporting principles of inclusivity, accessibility and participation, providing the opportunity for these outstanding Para athletes to compete at the highest level in their sport.”
