Oysho Cardiff Half Marathon Road Closures

The Oysho Cardiff Half Marathon is on Sunday, October 5th and road closures will affect travel in the city from Wednesday, October 2nd, until Monday, October 6th. Residents and visitors are advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

Road closures will begin on Wednesday, October 2nd, to set up the event’s race village at the Civic Centre.

  • From 5:00 AM on Thursday, October 2nd, until midnight on Monday, October 6th:
    • Edward VII Avenue to Boulevard de Nantes to its junction with City Hall Road.
  • From 5:00 AM on Saturday, October 4th, until midnight on Sunday, October 5th:
    • King Edward VII (from the junctions with Boulevard de Nantes to City Hall Road and from Corbett Road to City Hall Road).
    • Museum Avenue (from the closed end with Corbett Road to the junction with Gorsedd Gardens Road).
    • Gorsedd Gardens Road (from the junction with Park Place to the junction with Museum Avenue).
    • City Hall Road (from the junction with Museum Avenue to its junction with North Road).

Note: Access for private parking and deliveries will be allowed until 9:00 AM on Saturday, October 4th. Emergency services will have access from North Road during the event.

Road closures on race day will be implemented in phases to accommodate the event.

  • From 6:00 AM to 10:45 AM:
    • North Road from its junction with Colum Road to its junction with Boulevard de Nantes.
    • Note: Access to Blackweir will be via Park Place/Corbett Road, northbound up North Road.
  • From 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM (Noon):
    • North Road south of the junction with Boulevard de Nantes to the A4161.
    • A4161 from the junction with North Road to its junction with Kingsway.
    • Kingsway from the junction with the A4161 to the junction with Duke Street.
    • Duke Street and Castle Street.
    • Cowbridge Road East from the junction with Castle Street to the junction with Cathedral Road.
  • From 10:00 AM to 3:10 PM:
    • Colum Road.
    • Park Place from the junction with St Andrews Place to the junction with Colum Road.

To facilitate the race route, there will be rolling road closures from 8:30 AM to 3:10 PM. These closures will be lifted as soon as the last runner has passed and it is safe to reopen the roads.

  • Cowbridge Road East from Cathedral Road, Wellington Street, Leckwith Road and Sloper Road.
  • Penarth Road, Cardiff Bay Barrage, Harbour Drive and Roald Dahl Plas.
  • Britannia Quay, Pierhead Street, Bute Place and Lloyd George Avenue.
  • Herbert Street, Tyndall Street, East Tyndall Street and Windsor Road.
  • Adam Street, Fitzalan Place (crossing Newport Road).
  • West Grove, Richmond Road and Albany Road.
  • Marlborough Road, Blenheim Road, Penylan Road and Ninian Road.
  • Fairoak Road, Lake Road East and Lake Road West.
  • Cathays Terrace, Corbett Road and Museum Avenue.

Access and Diversion Information:

  • Bus Gate: The bus gate on Westgate Street will be suspended from 8:30 AM to 3:10 PM on Sunday, October 5th.
  • Cardiff Bay: Residents and businesses will receive a separate letter outlining a managed diversion route via Celerity Drive, Craiglee Drive, Letton Way, Lloyd George Avenue and Bute Place. Normal access will resume once closures are lifted.
  • Cathays Cemetery: Access will be maintained via Allensbank Road until Fairoak Road reopens, at which point the main entrance will resume normal operation.
  • Other Access Points:
    • Access into Beatty Avenue from Lake Road North (including Jellicoe Gardens, Keyes Avenue, and Tyrwhitt Crescent) will be permitted.
    • Access to and from Queen Anne Square will be managed via Colum Road/Corbett Road.
    • Lady Mary Road from the junction with Maryport Road to the junction with Lake Road East will be open.
