Next week over 7,000 young rugby players will travel to Cardiff to compete for the Urdd WRU Rugby 7s title – the biggest rugby competition of its kind in Wales.
Between 20-24th April, Wales’ largest youth organisation, Urdd Gobaith Cymru, in partnership with the Welsh Rugby Union, will welcome 530 teams to Pontcanna fields to compete in the tournament.
The fully inclusive rugby event includes categories for primary school children to secondary schools and colleges, and additional educational needs schools, with secondary AAA pupils having the opportunity to play TAG and learn new skills.
Siân Lewis, Chief Executive of the Urdd said: “Once again this year, thousands of players will come together for the largest youth 7-a-side rugby tournament in Wales, the 2026 WRU Urdd Rugby 7s, on Pontcanna fields.
“I’m especially pleased that our Additional Learning Needs Schools Festival returns this year, ensuring that every young person has the chance to get involved in this fully inclusive event.
“Community and grassroots sport are at the heart of what we do at the Urdd. A sincere thank you goes to our dedicated volunteers – our organisers, coaches and referees – who work tirelessly to give young people exceptional experiences through the Welsh language.
“We are also extremely grateful to our partners for their ongoing support in developing the tournament. Special thanks to the WRU; to the University of South Wales and Cardiff Metropolitan University for continuing to offer valuable work experience opportunities to their students at our event; and to everyone volunteering with us this year.”
