Pentwyn’s community spirit is on full display with the official opening of the newly redeveloped Parc Coed y Nant skatepark.
It’s more than just a fresh slab of concrete, this vibrant new facility behind Pentwyn Leisure Centre is a testament to the power of community collaboration and a serious investment in the city’s youth. For years, the old skatepark lay underused, but thanks to the Council’s Neighbourhood Renewal Scheme and a vital boost from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund, the outdated setup has been replaced with a sleek, 300m² concrete spot style design. As a direct result of extensive community consultation, with local skaters and ward members having a real say in the final design, the end product is a space that’s not only modern and safe but also truly reflects the needs and desires of the people who will use it most.
The park was buzzing with local skateboarders during the launch event, landing tricks and flips that proved the new design is already a hit!
In attendance were key figures like Cabinet Member for Culture, Parks and Events, Cllr Jen Burke and Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, Cllr Lee Bridgeman, who joined local members in celebrating the new facility.
Cllr Bridgeman emphasised the importance of the project, stating, “The facilities that were here before were in poor condition and underused, despite strong local demand. This redevelopment shows our commitment to investing in spaces that matter to young people and the wider community.” This sentiment was echoed by Cllr Burke, who added, “This new skatepark is a brilliant example of what happens when we listen to young people and invest in their spaces. Parc Coed y Nant is now a place where creativity, energy, and community come together.”
Parc Coed y Nant is more than a skatepark; it’s a vibrant, living space, built by the community, for the community and it’s rolling into a bright future for Pentwyn!
