With just days to go, the city is gearing up for National Play Day Cardiff 2025, a much-loved celebration of creativity, community, and play.
Taking place on Wednesday 6 August from 1–4pm at the Eastern Leisure Centre playing fields, this free, family-friendly event is set to be one of the highlights of the summer.
This year’s theme, “Spaces for Play,” shines a spotlight on the importance of safe, inclusive places where children and young people can explore, connect and just be themselves.
Organised by Cardiff Council’s Play Services (within Children’s Services) in collaboration with community groups and other council departments, the afternoon promises hands-on fun for all ages. Expect everything from mud kitchens, arts and crafts, badge making and T-shirt printing to sports, garden games, circus skills, samba drumming and giant bubbles.
Community partners including South Wales Police, Menter Caerdydd, Cardiff Youth Services, Foster Wales Cardiff and many more will also be on hand with activities and useful info for families.
Cllr Peter Bradbury, Cabinet Member for Tackling Poverty & Supporting Young People, said:
“We’re counting down the days to one of the most joyful events of the summer. National Play Day is all about giving children the freedom to explore, create and make memories. It’s a celebration of imagination, friendship and fun—so bring your sun hats and come join us!”
Families are encouraged to travel sustainably by walking, cycling or using public transport. The venue is well connected via local routes, with bike parking available on-site. For travel planning, visit Traveline Cymru.
