Mastering Diversity Conference 2025: Zones Revealed

This September, Cardiff will play host to one of the most exciting and important events in the UK’s equity and inclusion calendar. The Mastering Diversity Conference 2025 returns on 11 September at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, bringing with it an ambitious programme designed to inspire action, not just conversation.

The day will see nine groundbreaking Zones open up across law, business, STEM, sport, health, education, gender equality, and more. These sessions will run in dynamic breakout formats, giving attendees three hours of deep-dive discussion and practical knowledge exchange between the headline ceremonies.

Advocating for Equity – Headline Zone

At the heart of the conference is the Advocating for Equity Zone, led by headline sponsors Leigh Day. Julia Reynolds, Clinical Negligence Partner, says:

“Working with Bernie Davies has been a complete joy. She is insightful, supportive and a real advocate for diversity and inclusion. Advocating for equity really summarises our values at Leigh Day – lawyers against injustice.”

Expect thought-provoking sessions on health inequity, disability rights, and access to justice for migrants, with speakers including Venestre Cyrill OBE, Dr Carlton Brown, and Scarlett Allen-Horton (Lord Sugar’s business partner).

Business Zone – Practice, Progress, Partnership

Sponsored by NatWest Group and Hugh James, this zone focuses on embedding inclusion in enterprise. Highlights include a keynote on the business case for DEI, followed by a panel exploring real stories of change across sectors.

STEM Zone – Powered by OGI

Led by Mike Scott of OGI, the STEM Zone celebrates innovation with inclusion at its core. From engineers to educators and digital creators, this zone champions the idea that no talent should be left behind.

Youth & Education Zone

Run by the Mastering Diversity Youth Board, this zone places young voices centre stage. Topics include digital inclusion, youth empowerment, and the role of education in shaping a more inclusive future.

Health Zone – Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust

This space focuses on people-first healthcare. Expect conversations around lived experience, staff networks, and non-traditional career pathways in health, led by WAST.

Sports Zon

Hosted by Rebecca Edwards-Symmons of Commonwealth Games Wales, this lively zone features panels with Team Wales, Cymru Women’s Sport, and the WCVA, exploring how sport can challenge culture and embrace intersectionality.

Gender Equality Zone

Led by Emma Waddingham of Legal News Wales, this year’s Gender Equality Zone is packed with inspiring conversations. Highlights include the SheWho Panel, a fireside chat with Eve Piffaretti (Blake Morgan), and a practical leadership workshop led by Ria Burrage-Male.

Representation Zone

With Laura Hughes of Browne Jacobson at the helm, this zone unpacks diversity in professional services. Highlights include a panel on DEI in law and business, a joint keynote from the CBI and University of South Wales, and Hughes’ own keynote: “If you can’t see it, you can’t be it.”

Why it matters

From law to sport, health to business, the Mastering Diversity Conference 2025 is more than a platform for discussion, it’s a call to action for Wales and beyond. With free tickets available (though capped at 350 for the main ceremonies), early booking is essential.
