A prominent housebuilder with a significant presence in Cardiff, Persimmon Homes East Wales, has stepped up to support a local youth football club’s annual tournament. The company recently donated £2,500 to Radyr Rangers Football Club as part of its Community Champions programme, helping to make the Radyr Rangers Football Festival 2025 a resounding success.
Held earlier this month at Radyr Comprehensive School, the Festival saw approximately 700 children participate, showcasing the vibrant youth football scene in the area. The club received considerable backing from various businesses and local organisations through both sponsorship and donations, highlighting the strong community spirit.
Radyr Rangers FC has experienced remarkable growth since its inception, now providing football opportunities for over 400 children and young people from Radyr, Morganstown, and surrounding areas. With around 440 players across both boys’ and girls’ teams, the club boasts a proud history, even counting Wales international Tom Lockyer among its former players.
Persimmon’s commitment to the local community is evident through its Community Champions initiative, which donates a substantial £48,000 to good causes across Wales each year.
Victoria Williams, Sales Director for Persimmon Homes East Wales, expressed her delight at the sponsorship: “Persimmon was delighted to be a sponsor of this year’s Radyr Rangers Football Festival. As a local developer, it matters to us that we can support local initiatives like this that bring so much community benefit, especially given our commitment to leaving a positive and lasting legacy where we build.” She added, “I know the Festival is a major landmark for people in Radyr, Morganstown, and beyond – with families from the Persimmon team involved too – and we’re pleased the Festival went so well.”
Rob Fancourt, Chair of Radyr Rangers FC, echoed the gratitude: “We’re grateful to Persimmon for their sponsorship this year. Festivals like this and clubs such as Radyr Rangers have such a positive impact on their communities, so its vital that we can attract financial support from local businesses.” He also acknowledged the collective effort: “The players, parents, and community organisations all played an important role in making this year’s festival another success for the club and we’re already looking forward to next year’s as Radyr Rangers continues to grow and provide opportunities for local families.”
