From Stevie Wonder to the Green Man Festival, Hamid Kowsor and Laura Davenport are officially the “reeling” royalty of the Welsh food scene.
If there is one thing we know at Cardiff Life, it’s that a Friday night chippy is a sacred Welsh tradition. But for the team at The Posh Fish & Chip Company in Llandaff, “standard” simply doesn’t cut it. This week, they’ve proven exactly why they’re the leaders of the pack, netting a top-three finish at the 2026 National Fish and Chip Awards.
The “Oscars” of the Ocean
Taking place at London’s Park Plaza on Wednesday, 25 February, the awards are widely regarded as the “Oscars” of the frying world. After a rigorous process involving a live cook-off and expert interviews, owners Hamid Kowsor and Laura Davenport secured second place in the UK for ‘Best Mobile Unit’ – making them the highest-ranked entry in all of Wales.
The Stevie Wonder Treatment
Since launching in 2013, the duo has been on a mission to elevate the humble takeaway into a gourmet experience. Whether they are serving musical icon Stevie Wonder or the hungry crowds at Blackweir Fields and Glamorgan Cricket, the mission remains the same: premium quality without compromise.
“Our mission has always been to meet the rising demand for premium quality ‘on-the-go’ dining,” says co-owner Laura Davenport. “Whether we’re serving legends or the people of Wales, the quality of every chip stays the same.”
What’s Next?
With their “secret recipe” sauces and MSC-certified sustainable seafood, the “Posh” team isn’t slowing down. Following their success in Llandaff, they’ve recently expanded their empire to the coast with the opening of the Barry Island Fish and Chip Company.
As we head into a summer of festivals and outdoor gigs, keep an eye out for that award-winning mobile unit – it’s officially the best seat (and treat) in the house.
