The UK’s most beloved Southern-style BBQ restaurant, is thrilled to announce that its very first smokehouse in the capital city is just over a week away from opening its doors in St Mellons.
Locals can look forward to a full on, authentic smokehouse experience from the very first hello. Hickory’s promises to bring the vibrant flavours and unrivalled hospitality of the deep south, right to the heart of the community. This opening is a special one, it’s the third Hickory’s in Wales (joining Rhos-on-Sea and Wrexham) and the very first in a UK capital.

The team has pulled out all the stops to make Hickory’s Cardiff something truly exceptional.
The interior, captures the warmth of the south, cosy booths and a buzzing atmosphere designed for kicking back with family and friends. Every detail is welcoming, from festooned lighting and Southern-States inspired artwork to an open kitchen where you can see (and smell!) the southern pride smokers, imported directly from Texas, in action.
This location is set to become a true neighborhood hub, boasting one of Hickory’s biggest bar areas yet. For a more intimate experience, guests can discover a secret dining room tucked away from the main space. But the real showstopper is Cardiff’s debut of Hickory’s first ever boothed chefs’ bar, giving you a front row seat to watch the Pitmasters at work.
Completing the experience is a huge bar terrace, which features a retractable roof, perfect for enjoying the space, rain or shine.

Hickory’s Cardiff is opening with a brand new menu. However, all the much-loved favourites are still there!
Expect slow-cooked BBQ classics straight from the smokers, melt in your mouth Texas style brisket, Memphis baby back ribs and all the fixin’s.
Behind the bar, guests can enjoy Southern-inspired cocktails, ice cold beers and their famous freakshakes, milkshakes and sodas for the whole family. Whether you’re a bourbon buff, a cocktail lover, or just after a great pint, there’s a drink for you.

Leading the charge is General Manager Nick. Originally from Porthcawl, Nick has been a part of Cardiff’s hospitality scene for over 15 years.
“It’s an absolute dream to be leading Hickory’s Cardiff,” Nick said. “This city means so much to me and I can’t wait to give it the smokehouse it deserves. We’re bringing authentic flavours, Southern hospitality, and a space where everyone can feel at home. I just know Cardiff is going to love it.”
Ben Rushworth, who oversees guest experience and authenticity, echoed the sentiment, “Cardiff has been right at the top of our wish list for a long time. It’s such a vibrant city… when the opportunity in St Mellons came up, we absolutely jumped at it. It’s only right that we bring our taste of the Deep South to the heart of South Wales.”
