Wales legend Gareth Bale has confirmed he is spearheading a consortium with the ambitious goal of acquiring Cardiff City Football Club and, ultimately, guiding his hometown club back to the Premier League.
Bale, who hung up his boots in early 2023 after a stellar career, revealed these exciting plans on the red carpet at the premiere of F1 The Movie. This marks the first time he has publicly spoken about his bid to take over the Bluebirds.
While initial reports last week suggested an offer from Bale’s consortium to Vincent Tan was rejected, the timing of Bale’s public announcement hints at further developments.
“We are interested in getting Cardiff,” he shared. “It’s my home club, it’s where I grew up and my uncle used to play for them. [Chris Pike].” He added, “It’s a club close to my heart. It’s where I grew up and I would love to be able to be a part of growing Cardiff” and taking it to the Premier League where it belongs.”
He also expressed his admiration for the club’s fanbase, “I know how amazing the Welsh fans and Cardiff fans are. It would be amazing to try and do something together.”
“We are trying to engage with Cardiff and more news will come out on that in the future but hopefully we can get something done.
This potential move comes at a pivotal time for Cardiff City, who, following relegation to league 1, recently appointed Brian Barry-Murphy as their new head coach.
