Essential Travel Guide: Guinness Men’s Six Nations 2026 at Principality Stadium

Cardiff is preparing to welcome hundreds of thousands of rugby supporters as the Guinness Men’s Six Nations Championship 2026 arrives at the Principality Stadium. With three major home fixtures scheduled throughout February and March, city officials have confirmed a series of comprehensive road closures and travel measures to ensure public safety and manage congestion.

Match Schedule and Road Closure Times

Full city centre road closures will be implemented on the following dates:

  • Sunday, February 15th (Wales vs France): Kick-off at 3:10pm. Roads closed from 11:00am to 7:15pm.
  • Saturday, February 21st (Wales vs Scotland): Kick-off at 4:40pm. Roads closed from 12:30pm to 9:00pm.
  • Saturday, March 14th (Wales vs Italy): Kick-off at 4:40pm. Roads closed from 12:30pm to 9:00pm.

In addition to the full city closures, Scott Road and Park Street will be closed from 7:00am on match days to facilitate stadium gate preparations.

Major Road Closures

The “full city centre closure” will affect several major arteries, including:

  • Kingsway, Duke Street, Castle Street, and High Street.
  • St Mary Street, Wood Street, and Westgate Street.
  • Cowbridge Road East (from Cathedral Road to Westgate Street).
  • Tudor Street (access for residents only via Fitzhammon Embankment).

Penarth Road will also close for approximately 90 minutes surrounding the final whistle to assist with safe pedestrian flow at the rear of Cardiff Central Station.

Public Transport and Parking

Rail Travel: Both Great Western Railway (GWR) and Transport for Wales (TfW) will operate additional services. However, passengers are warned that trains will be at capacity. A post-match queuing system will be in place at Cardiff Central; fans should note that Cardiff Queen Street will be closed for the France and Scotland fixtures (except for accessible travel).

Park & Ride: The primary event Park & Ride will be located at the Vindico Arena, Cardiff International Sports Village (CF11 0JS).

  • Cost: £15 (Cash only).
  • Opening: Opens at 9:30am, with the first bus at 10:00am.

Civic Centre & Sophia Gardens: Event day parking for cars and coaches is available at the Civic Centre and Sophia Gardens for £20 and £30 respectively. Card payments are now accepted at these locations.

Security and Stadium Policy

The Principality Stadium has reminded attendees of its strict bag policy. Large bags are not permitted; only small bags (no larger than 35cm x 40cm x 19cm) or standard handbags will be allowed through security. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to allow for mandatory security checks at the gates.

Active travel remains a high priority for the city, with all cycleways remaining open throughout the event period. Local residents are encouraged to walk or cycle where possible to avoid motorway delays.
