Christmas at Bute Park, Wales’ largest light trail, is returning to Cardiff city centre for its fifth year with a dazzling new route, brand new installations, and tempting festive food and drink.
Running from Friday, November 21st to December 31st, 2025, the trail follows last year’s huge success, which saw over 104,000 tickets sold. Organisers from the Fields promise more than five weeks of festive magic.
This year’s event introduces several spectacular new features:
- Water Willow: A stunning installation featuring three large illuminated tree structures with thousands of LEDs, combining synchronised light and an ambient soundscape.
- Icefall: A vertical light display designed to simulate a cascading waterfall using cool white and blue tones, set to a winter-themed audio track.
- Crystal Avenue: Five illuminated chandeliers light the path to the Secret Garden Café, programmed to dance in time with Tchaikovsky’s Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
- Visitors can also enjoy sculpted Dandelions, a lit walkthrough Archway, the gorgeous tree projection of Yuletide Magic and the shimmering Christmas Cascades water fountains.
Foodies are well catered for with an array of street food traders and the cosy, heated Bute Park Tavern Alpine wooden cabin for drinks.
Traders include Cattle Co. Burgers, Hash & Dash, Frico Pizza & Loaded Fries, Daddy Mac’s, Oh My Sausage, Let’s Wrap Fried Chicken, Chocomelt Station, and Crumble Pots. Coffee stalls, bars and vintage fairground rides will also be available.
Roxy Robinson, Creative Director at From the Fields, expressed excitement about the return, stating, “We are looking forward to bringing new installations and a new route to make sure visitors continue to enjoy the festive trail.”
This year, Christmas at Bute Park has partnered with Cardiff’s luxury five-star hotel, voco St David’s. General Manager Konstantin Grimm noted the hotel’s ideal location for guests, combining a magical evening at the light trail with an overnight stay.
