Cardiff’s skyline is reaching new heights following the approval of a 50-storey tower that will tower over the nearby Principality Stadium.
Move over, Swansea – Cardiff is officially reaching for the clouds. In a move that shows a bold new chapter for our city’s architecture, planners have given the green light to a staggering 50-storey skyscraper that is set to become the tallest building in Wales.
The tower will quite literally tower above the neighbouring Principality Stadium. It’s a sophisticated addition to the city’s evolving heart, designed by the visionaries at 5plus architects for developers BlueCastle Capital.
But it’s not just about the height, it’s about the lifestyle. This landmark destination will house 528 chic build-to-rent apartments, perfect for those who want the city at their doorstep. The skyscraper would also include meeting rooms, an atrium, a bike hub and cafe.
It could make Wales home to the second-tallest building in the UK outside of London. The Shard in Southwark, London, standing at 1,016ft (309.6m) high is currently the tallest completed building in the UK. Taking the lead outside of London is Deansgate Square South Tower, Manchester, at 656ft (200m).
Whether you’re a champion of this bold new vertical horizon or you’re more at home among the timeless Victorian terraces of Pontcanna, there is no denying that Cardiff’s status as a premier UK destination is reaching sophisticated new heights.
