Cardiff’s Newest neighbourhood restaurant and wine shop opening this autumn 2025

Cardiff’s vibrant independent food scene is about to get even better with the arrival of Ogof. Set to open later this year on Kings Road, this new neighbourhood restaurant and wine shop will be a brilliant addition to the border of Canton and Pontcanna. Formerly the site of Poca, Ogof promises to bring a fresh, exciting vibe and an incredible new spot to eat and socialise. Behind the new venture are co-owners Alex Vines, Siôn Iorwerth and Zanna Clarke. Each brings a unique skillset and a deep connection to the city.

After a decade of honing his craft in London’s top kitchens, including 40 Maltby Street and Rochelle Canteen, chef Alex Vines is back in Cardiff and his food is more personal than ever. He’s been immersing himself in the local community with his popular ‘Vines’ pop-up, while also working with Visit Wales and Cegin y Bobl; a not-for-profit running cooking programmes for children and families.

Siôn Iorwerth, originally from Carmarthenshire, is a wine specialist who helped open one of Vancouver’s first natural wine bars. He’s working with Wright’s Wines and other independent UK importers to create a list of distinctive, natural wines from Europe and the UK.

Zanna Clarke, who has a background in the arts and charity sector, brings a wealth of leadership and customer experience to the team. She hopes Ogof will become a place the community feels proud of and connected to.

Ogof, which takes its name from the Welsh word for cave, is a nod to the French cave à manger tradition, part wine shop, part restaurant. The space will be relaxed and informal, with the focus squarely on quality seasonal food and natural wines.

Guests can expect a menu shaped by close relationships with local farmers and growers. According to Siôn, the goal is to create a casual space where good food and real wines are at the forefront, whether customers are stopping in for a quick glass, picking up a bottle to take home or settling in for the full evening menu.

With its talented team and community-focused vision, Ogof is poised to become a welcome addition to Cardiff’s independent dining scene.
