Cardiff city centre has officially received a spectacular “Very Cardiff Christmas” glow up, with FOR Cardiff unveiling two breathtaking new light projections that transform the heart of the capital and officially kick off the festive season.
Created by the renowned light artists Illuminos, these installations have transformed two iconic landmarks, Cardiff Market and Cardiff Central Station, wrapping the city in light, poetry and vibrant colour.

Visitors to the city will be treated to a brand-new projection site outside Cardiff Market, where a majestic robin soars among the market stalls. This charming display serves as a powerful symbol of warmth, community and connection during the Christmas season.

Meanwhile, at Cardiff Central Station, a dynamic projection celebrates the timeless Welsh storytelling of Dylan Thomas’s A Child’s Christmas in Wales. The display features beautifully animated quotes from the iconic poem, ensuring that the first and last sights of the city for many travellers are rooted in Welsh culture and festive spirit.
The launch of these installations marks the official start of Cardiff’s Christmas celebrations, perfectly coinciding with the introduction of late-night shopping at St David’s Dewi Sant and the beginning of a six-week programme of seasonal events across the city.
The projections launch the wider “A Very Cardiff Christmas” campaign, delivered by FOR Cardiff in partnership with Visit Cardiff. The campaign aims to cement the Welsh capital as a leading UK festive destination, showcasing the best of Cardiff’s retail, hospitality and cultural scene.
