A new 15,000 seat indoor arena has been confirmed for Cardiff, marking a major milestone for the city’s entertainment scene. The project, set to be the centre piece of the Atlantic Wharf redevelopment, moves forward thanks to a newly signed development and funding agreement.
Contracts have been exchanged between Cardiff Council, global entertainment giant Live Nation, its partner Oak View Group (OVG) and development partner Robertson Property.
Live Nation will operate the arena under a 45-year lease, and the ambitious £250 million project, which includes the relocation of the existing Travelodge hotel, faced significant cost increases due to recent inflation. Following budget pressures, Live Nation has stepped in with a £100 million financial contribution, providing a substantial boost to the project and the wider Cardiff economy.
Set to be the “missing link” in Cardiff’s entertainment infrastructure, the new arena will be built on the existing car park of the Red Dragon leisure site and a section of Cardiff Council’s County Hall parking area.
