Cardiff’s own Chris Hamilton, a multi-award-winning musician, is bringing his incredible tenor and piano act, Tiano, to the Wales Millennium Centre this October. Joined by his husband, West End star Shimi Goodman, the duo is set to perform for one night only, injecting new life into familiar songs with their dynamic and eclectic style.
Both accomplished musicians, the pair met at Guildford School of Acting and started collaborating on Tiano during the 2021 lockdown. Since then, the show has earned rave reviews, including a sold out series of performances at London’s Crazy Coqs and a successful US debut in Massachusetts. They’re also set to perform in Las Vegas and Tucson before their return to Wales.
For Chris, this performance is a true homecoming. A talented Welsh musician, he has a long list of achievements to his name. He won the prestigious Blue Riband at the Welsh National Eisteddfod and came in third in the Texaco Young Musician of the Year competition.
Chris’s talents extend beyond performance. In 2009, he wrote the music, lyrics, and book for his first musical, Over The Threshold. The show was critically acclaimed, winning the MTM, UK Award for Best New Music before transferring to London and later being produced in Vienna and New York. Chris also won the Tim Williams Award for two consecutive years and the Audience Club Old Words, New Theatrical Song in 2011.
Beyond his musical career, Chris studied law at Oxford University, where he also received an Instrumental Scholarship. Despite his law degree and a job in London, his love for music prevailed, and he ultimately returned to the arts. Since then, he’s performed at prestigious venues worldwide, including the House of Commons and The Savoy. The Telegraph has even praised him as an “ace pianist.”
Tiano’s show is a unique blend of genres, featuring everything from Albinoni to Tom Jones. They breathe new life into familiar songs by pairing them with well-known classical piano pieces, creating a truly one-of-a-kind experience.
