Cardiff-based heritage menswear brand launch murals celebrating the legacy of local welsh artist

Welsh heritage menswear brand Cambrensis will present ‘Honouring Dewi Bowen: Mural Launch Event’ at the new Merthyr Tydfil Indoor Market on Saturday 23 May 2026 at 7pm, unveiling two large-scale permanent bilingual murals celebrating the life and legacy of Welsh artist Dewi Bowen.

Founded by Ioan Bowen-Pickett, Cambrensis is a Cardiff-based Welsh heritage menswear brand that blends storytelling, cultural preservation and contemporary design. The brand has gained national recognition for its sold-out events and purpose-driven narratives, including the Victory to
the Miners runway show at Cornerstone Cardiff, widely regarded as Wales’ biggest runway show.

Cambrensis continues to position fashion as a medium for documenting and reinterpreting Welsh identity, combining personal history, industrial heritage and modern cultural commentary. The murals honour Dewi Bowen, a respected Welsh heritage artist from Cefn Coed, Merthyr Tydfil, who dedicated his life to art and spent much of his career as Head of Art at Cyfarthfa High School. Today, his work lives on through Cambrensis, with original illustrations forming a key part of the brand’s visual identity and
storytelling.

Cambrensis founder Ioan Bowen-Pickett says: “This is one of the most special projects I’ve ever worked on,”

“To be able to honour my great-uncle Dewi in the town that meant everything to him, and to have his work permanently displayed for people to see every day, is incredibly powerful. These murals are about legacy – about recognising where we come from, celebrating Welsh heritage, and showing how that can live on through new generations and new creative platforms.”

At a time when the preservation of local culture and identity is more important than ever, Honouring Dewi Bowen: Mural Launch Event stands as both a tribute and a statement – bridging past and present through art, fashion and film. The installation not only celebrates the life of a dedicated Welsh artist but also reinforces Merthyr Tydfil’s position as a centre for cultural storytelling, ensuring that its history continues to inspire future generations.
