Cardiff Hubs

We’ve all seen those cosy reading nooks, filled with blankets and cushions that you can curl up into with a book, just like in the movies, but who has the time to create one in their own house? Instead of finding the time and space to create one, there are places in our very own city that provide them for us. They appear cosier as the autumn nights draw in and the appeal to stay indoors strengthens. Cardiff Hubs and Libraries are staple parts of our communities. Scattered throughout Cardiff, they provide various services, from all important book and computer access to housing advice.

Last winter, Cardiff Hubs and Libraries introduced everyone to join them in their Hubs for ‘Warm Welcome Spaces’. This scheme keeps you cosier than ever, inviting local residents into their heated spaces for a hot drink, a chat and to use the facilities. At the heart of the Hubs is the aspect of community. They incorporate this by offering a wide range of events and activities for all ages, such as Tai Chi, Lego club, dementia cafés, gardening clubs and carers cafés. The clubs and activities are a great way to come together, make friends and have an overall positive effect on your well-being. Whether you want to curl up with a book or meet some new people to chat with, there’s a cosy corner ready for you to settle in.

The libraries have what feels like an unlimited amount of books, so much so that it can be hard to select your book of choice! In need of some inspiration? No problem. Andrea Currie from Cardiff Council has you covered, “One of our hottest titles right now is ‘Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow’.” It’s a book about friendship and betrayal set in the world of video game design. Not your cup of tea? There’s plenty of other genres to choose from.
