Otrovert, is photographer Lloyd Pursall’s first UK solo exhibition. Lloyd’s exhibition, which opens on 18th April in the Vale of Glamorgan’s flagship gallery, Art Central Gallery, Barry, is a homecoming story.
Lloyd Pursall grew up in Barry, where he began his photographic training at Cardiff and Vale College, before going on to attain a BA at London College of Fashion. He moved to Los Angeles in his early twenties, where he has built a career in fashion photography and shooting celebrity portraits.
Some of this work can be seen in the Art Central exhibition, but it is interspersed with more personal work, so the famous faces hang alongside landscapes and portraits of people from Barry, people Lloyd
has known all his life.
Photographing them with the same editorial sensibility that he uses for magazine covers felt important, Lloyd asserts, “they deserve nothing less.”
A dedicated space in the exhibition belongs to Level 2 students at Cardiff & Vale College. Mentoring the students and inviting them to respond to the theme Otrovert was important for Lloyd. The college is where everything began for him, offering the inspiration he once needed.
“It felt like closing a loop in the most meaningful way,” he said, “Returning home has reminded me how deeply Barry Town has shaped me.”
The exhibition runs from 18th April to 4th July and is open daily from 9.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday and 9.30am to 4pm on Saturdays. The gallery is closed on Sundays.
