Global Running Day is sneaking up on us quickly on 5 June, so we thought, what better opportunity to shine a spotlight on Cardiff’s beloved LGBTQ+ running group, the Cardiff Foxes? With members based in Cardiff and the surrounding areas, this LGBTQ-focused running group is all about giving everyone a warm, supportive spot to run, whether you’re just starting out or you’re already nailing marathons. It’s especially geared towards LGBTQ+ folks who might not feel comfortable in the usual running circles, but allies are totally welcome too.
Every Sunday morning, the Cardiff Foxes hit the ground running for their staple 5k, and sometimes they throw in some longer midweek runs for anyone craving a bit more of a challenge. But it’s not all about running; they also organise some pretty fun social events like hikes, nights out, and trips to exciting spots nearby.
You can catch them every Sunday at Castle West Lodge in Bute Park and Arboretum, Castle St, Cardiff, CF10 1BJ. They start gathering at 10:15am and take off at 10:30am sharp. It’s a perfect mix of fitness and socialising with a super supportive community.
Follow the Cardiff Foxes on Instagram @cardifffoxes for each month’s running schedule and other updates
Global Running Day
To celebrate Global Running Day 2024, Strava is organising a Virtual NYRR Global Running Day 5K, encouraging runners to cover 3.1 miles at any location of their choice between 1 June and 9 June. This event allows thousands to join forces globally, emphasising the importance of staying active and healthy.

Stonewall challenges
As part of their fundraising efforts for the queer community, Stonewall are inviting people to ‘push [themselves], get fitter and be part of creating a better world for LGBTQ+ communities’ by signing up for a spot on Team Stonewall in one of several races taking place throughout the UK. They still have a few spots left for the Cardiff Half Marathon in October – what better motivation to finally tackle that challenge than doing it for a cause?
