A care home in Cardiff has been named one of the best in the country by the UK’s leading care home review website for a second consecutive year. The annual Care Home Awards recognise 20 of the top-rated care homes in each region of the UK, and Care UK’s Llys Herbert, on Ty-Draw Road, has once again been listed as one of the best from more than 1,000 care homes across Wales.
Llys Herbert is known for its commitment to enabling residents to lead active and fulfilling lives. The care home provides daily group and one-to-one activities, monthly friendship cafés and a Wishing Tree initiative that encourages residents to put wishes forward to reconnect with a past hobby or try something completely new.
The list of the most recommended care homes across the UK is compiled based on both the individual home and care group review score, which is calculated using reviews provided by residents or service users and their family or friends. With a score of 9.9, 95 percent of reviewers for Llys Herbert rated the care home as ‘excellent’.
One review said: “Excellent level of care and attention to needs. All staff are very friendly and helpful. Interests are considered and every effort is made to ensure engagement. The lifestyle leader organised a room, decorations and refreshments-without us asking, a lovely surprise for my mother-in-law’s 80th birthday, so that my father-in-law and the rest of the family could be included in the celebrations. It is a great relief that we know that my father-in-law is being cared for and is made comfortable 24/7.”
Another review said: “Very pleased with the attention shown to Dad’s needs and the care given. Staff are always welcoming and friendly and all are very helpful. Lifestyle staff have considered Dad’s interests and have set up a chess club with one member of staff, who is organising this, teaching herself to play in order to join in, really impressed with her. Escorts on minibus trips have been excellent, this included a Christmas visit to a family members home which was lovely for Dad. Most importantly we know that Dad is being cared for and is comfortable for 24 hours a day.”
